FT: Reasons to be cheerful reach a record

LONDON, 21 April 2009 - To mark Her Majesty the Queen's birthday, today sees a record 194 businesses receive the Queen's Award for Enterprise.

One of the coveted and highly prestigious awards for Innovation, 2009 goes to BullionVault, the London-based storage and trading service now caring for £380 million of gold and cash on behalf of more than 13,000 users worldwide.

"If ever British business needed a boost to morale, it is now," says the Financial Times in its report on today's awards.

"The list of winners of the annual Queen's Awards for Enterprise is a timely reminder that, buffeted as many companies are by the recession, a huge range of businesses are devising innovative products and selling them around the world.

"The finance industry may be in a nervous state after what has happened in banking," the FT goes on, "but winners from this sector include BullionVault.com, which wins an innovation award for developing internet technology that allows private investors to gain access to the professional gold market in London."
